Kim Jong-Un Must Be Pretty Happy Right Now

The interpreter of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump had a daunting task to perform as he translated Trump's notoriously free-associating verbal style for his boss. Trump warmly touched Kim's arm during the handshake.

That is, of course, correct. For his part, Kim hailed the "historic meeting" and said they "decided to leave the past behind". Kim is widely believed to have ordered the execution of his own uncle and half-brother. "I may stand before you in six months and say, 'Hey, I was wrong, '" Trump told reporters.

Prior to the summit, Kim suspended nuclear and missile testing in April, and he agreed to close a major weapons testing site.

Mr Trump announced he would halt "very provocative" and expensive regular military exercises that the USA holds with South Korea.

The camera then panned to Kim who listened to the translation - and his reaction about their weight was utterly priceless.

Gorka agreed with Brian Kilmeade on "Fox & Friends" that the nuclear weapons agreement should be submitted as a verifiable treaty.

A spokeswoman for United States military forces in Korea said it had not received any direction to cease joint military drills.

Joint U.S. and South Korea military exercises occur regularly on the Korean Peninsula and have long angered North Korea, with Mr. Kim - like his father and grandfather before him - having called the drills a preparation for invasion of the North and seized on them as an impetus for hurling threats at Washington and Seoul.

"It's a victory for North Korea, in having initiated an open-ended, drawn-out negotiation process that ensnares the US into not enforcing sanctions", said Lee.

At the Trump-Kim Summit, Human Rights Are on the Agenda
Singapore is one of the few countries that have diplomatic relations with both the U.S. and North Korea. One diplomatic source in Singapore said that "Tension was very high in North Korea, hence the secrecy".

President Donald J Trump of the United States of America and Chairman Kim Jong Un of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a first, historic summit in Singapore on June 12, 2018.

"I hated to do it, sometimes I felt foolish doing it, but we had no choice", Trump said. The President emerged from the one-on-one saying that he had an "excellent relationship" with the North Korean dictator.

The president acknowledged that US intelligence into the North Korean nuclear stockpile is limited, "probably less there than any other country", he said.

At one point, it features a montage with babies and vehicle factories, suggesting what a more prosperous future for North Korea could look like if it agreed to give up its nuclear arsenal.

As written, the Agreed Framework, a more-than-950-word document, required far more North Korean concessions than Trump's 350-word document, including the admission of global inspectors and the freezing of reactors, experts said.

Watching reactions to the Singapore summit as it unfolded became the ultimate foreign policy Rorschach test - everyone came away with a different picture of what happened.

The White House has not yet released the document, but the words were clearly visible in photographs taken when Trump displayed it to the gathered reporters. The best we can say is that this summit did bring the world back from the brink of another war on the Korean Peninsula.

Pompeo held firm to Trump's position that sanctions will remain in place until North Korea denuclearizes - and said they would even increase if diplomatic discussions did not progress positively.
