Defeat devices reportedly found in diesel Daimlers

Производитель отзывает около 700 000 неисправных Mercedes в Европе

The Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt said 238,000 vehicles in the country have unauthorised software fitted and has demanded that they are fixed immediately by the auto maker.

Vehicles kept to legal emissions limits for harmful substances like nitrogen oxides during lab tests, only to exceed them as much as 40 times in on-road driving. A device can be classified as illegal if exhaust filtering systems are deactivated too early or without good reason.

The German government has ordered carmaker Daimler to immediately recall 238,000 vehicles equipped with software that turns off emissions controls under certain conditions.

The announcement came a day after Germany's Bild am Sonntag newspaper reported that the national road vehicle authority KBA had found five illegal switch-off devices in Daimler diesels. The list of offending vehicles includes the C-Class GLC and Vito.

Recent weeks have seen Germany´s KBA vehicle licensing authority hit Volkswagen subsidiaries Audi and Porsche with mass recall orders over their engine control software, as well as a smaller batch of cars from rival BMW.

E3 2018: Microsoft Announces ‘Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition’ For Xbox One
The remaster is the first Tales entry to come to Xbox One , preceded by Tales of Berseria , which launched on PlayStation 4 in January of previous year .

Since rival Volkswagen admitted in 2015 to cheating U.S. emissions tests, German automakers including Daimler and BMW have faced a backlash against diesel technology in which they have invested billions of euros.

It's now unclear how many models in the United Kingdom are impacted. A spokesman for the company declined to comment on specifics regarding the case, but said: "We are cooperating to a full extent and transparently with the KBA and the federal transport ministry".

The recall was announced after meetings on Monday between Daimler executives and Germany's top regulator failed to resolve the issue, which related to unapproved software functions found in the carmaker's Euro 6 diesel engines, according to a report in Bloomberg.

Evercore ISI analyst Arndt Ellinghorst predicted the costs for the required software update for Daimler would be less than 100million euros (£88million). "Overall, this outcome should de-risk the stock".
