Trump attends G-7 gender equality breakfast

On Friday, French President Emmanuel Macron appeared to indicate room for negotiation ahead of a delayed meeting with Trump, telling reporters "Sometimes we disagree".

He was reacting to Trudeau's declaration that Canadians would "not be pushed around" and would hit back at punishing USA tariffs on metal imports with "equivalent tariffs".

He blamed past world leaders, including past presidents, for that situation, but said the current crew - including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau - now know that the "gig is up".

Within minutes of the official release of the document, Trump attacked Trudeau on Twitter over what he described as the prime minister's "false statements" during the closing news conference - and the president announced the USA would no longer endorse the communique.

Navarro calls that a "socialist communique" that Trump pulled out of.

The president has made a lot of noise at this year's G7 event in the Quebec town of La Malbaie - first by launching a Twitter attack on Canada's trade policies before the summit and then for suggesting Russian Federation be invited to re-join the alliance. Mexico is also a member of Nafta. Morneau said progress is being made, but more work needs to be done to conclude the negotiations. We have to get something going. All three trading partners have threatened to retaliate with their own levies against US imports.

Trump angered his G7 allies last week by slapping them with hefty tariffs on steel and aluminum - a move that prompted Canada and the European Union to threaten duties of their own.

"I would say that the level of relationship is a 10".

On climate, however, all G7 members except the US said they support the Paris agreement.

"They do so much more business with us than we do with them. the numbers are so astronomically against them ... we win that war a thousand times out of a thousand".

Trudeau said five of the G7 countries agreed to a plastics charter to further protect the environment and oceans.

The other G7 leaders will meet without Trump for the rest of the day, discussing climate change and worldwide development.

Trump told reporters he pressed for "fair and reciprocal" trade practices at the G-7 meeting in Canada, urging his foreign counterparts to eliminate all tariffs, trade barriers and subsidies in their trading practices.

"We should at least consider no tariffs, no barriers - scrapping all of it", the U.S. media reported Trump, as saying to the assembled leaders.

Trump revealed that the US team had worked "very well" with the representatives from Pyongyang during the bilateral preparatory talks for the summit.

Trump backed out of the summit before its conclusion, missing G7 negotiations on climate and health.

But expectations for any breakthroughs at the two-day Group of Seven meeting in La Malbaie, Quebec, are low.

Trump calls for return of Russian Federation to the G7 ‘table’
Merkel said on Saturday there must first be progress on a Ukraine peace plan before there is any talk about readmitting Moscow. She said: "Where we disagree with our allies on something it is right that we say so, and air the issue openly and frankly".
