Trump won’t invite Warriors (or Cavaliers) to the White House

SPORTSPresident Donald Trump won't invite NBA champion to White HouseSHARE:sharetweetshareemail

Cleveland Cavaliers kingpin LeBron James.

"That's typical of him", James said in response to the Eagles' rescinded invitation, according to Sports Illustrated. "I know no matter who wins this series, no-one wants the invite anyway".

Instead, members of the Golden State roster spent their first road trip in the nation's capital touring an African-American history museum with a group of school children.

Acknowledging the unifying role that sports can play in a politically divided atmosphere, NBA commissioner Adam Silver expressed disappointment at President Trump's decision to not invite the victor of the 2018 NBA Finals to the White House as had been tradition before Trump took office in 2017.

In remarks prior to Game 4 on Friday night, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said, "Man, it's Game 4 of the Finals".

The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers now are playing for the NBA's championship but Trump said on Friday the victor would not be coming to the White House. He said, "I think we'll have the Caps, I mean, we'll see".

Stephen Curry, who's LeBron's opposition on the court, is on board with him on the anti-Trump train.

"It's an important conversation, but you can't control what other people try to do, or try to control the narrative or things like that, " Curry said.

Scott earns US Open berth through qualifiers
The sun was blazing all day Monday at Ansley Golf Club-Settindown Creek in Roswell for a 36-hole sectional qualifier for the U.S. Stricker, who has 12 PGA Tour titles and has won twice on the PGA Tour Champions, will be making his 21st appearance in the U.S.

Trump's announcement echoes his sentiment from September, when he disinvited the 2017 champion Warriors and called out Stephen Curry in a tweet. "And every team that's won a championship since then has gone through that".

But those visits have been less frequent since President Trump took office.

The big prize: The Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy awarded to the victor of the NBA Finals. When told of LeBron's comments, Curry said that he agreed players from either team won't want an invite.

Like previous year, Trump is taking the decision out of their hands.

The players' comments come a day after Trump called off the Philadelphia Eagles scheduled trip to the White House, citing the ongoing National Football League kneeling controversy.

Earlier this week, both James and Curry said they were not expecting an invitation this year.

It's the fourth consecutive year that the two teams have met in the finals.

"So it's just the way it is". But that's not going to stop Trump from pulling his classic 'we don't want you here anyway routine.' In fact, per Axios, that's exactly how he's handing the eventual National Basketball Association champions. He told reporters today that he might pardon Muhammad Ali (whose 1967 draft evasion conviction was already overturned, in 1971, by the U.S. Supreme Court).
