Final weekend of Ontario election campaign gets underway

Ontario premier concedes defeat ahead of next week's polls

"I think it would be a very bad move", says Myer Siemiatycki, a politics professor at Toronto's Ryerson University. A vote for the Liberal Party is your best bet to make sure that the next government is not a majority government.

There was a time when voting was legal just for men.

"On the one end of the spectrum, you have Doug Ford - he's expressed his admiration for (U.S. President) Donald Trump, despite the chaos, the uncertainty that the Trump administration has caused Ontario", Wynne said.

Wynne's speech urged voters to support their local Liberal candidates to keep the NDP or Progressive Conservatives from having a "blank cheque" with which to run Ontario.

"Steelworkers are proud New Democrats because the NDP is the only party on the side of workers and communities", Warren said.

Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford was less focused on Wynne's admission. It's about the people of this province.

"Ontario wants change", Horwath said Friday.

Doug Ford wants Ontario municipalities to have the same kind of strong-mayor system as many big cities in the USA, saying a more powerful chief magistrate would be preferable to the "free-for-all" of current councils.

"It was a confluence of things", she said.

Ford said Friday that he has not yet decided whether he will attend and participate in the event if he wins the June 7 vote.

China warns USA against tariffs as trade talks end
Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross leaves a hotel ahead of trade talks with Chinese officials in Beijing , June 2, 2018. Following Beijing's announcement, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the dispute was "on hold".

"It's a realization that the Kathleen Wynne brand might be more detrimental than the Liberal party brand", she said. The NDP shocked pundits to win the election, the first time New Democrats had formed a government in Ontario.

He said they would drive Ontario deeper into debt, but when asked if he had a plan to pay down Ontario's more than $300-billion debt, Ford promised to find efficiencies of four per cent in the provincial budget.

It's a decision all three Liberals say they hope voters aren't making lightly.

With the election roughly a week away, Wynne travelled to the heart of her NDP rival's riding on Wednesday to portray herself as the only seasoned stateswoman in the campaign capable of rising above the ideological fray. Wynne's own riding was not one the Liberal source listed.

Wynne announced that the Liberals don't have a chance to form a majority government.

"And the polluters, any companies that decide to pollute, we're going to come down heavy on them, we're going to come down really heavy on them". I'm the working people.

"Our health care system and our education system has been cut so much", said Stockdale, a health educator.

At a stop in Hamilton outside a Stelco steel plant, she attacked both Horwath and Ford as unyielding ideologues without the experience to fend off the threat of American steel tariffs.

Ford's platform says that lost revenue will be offset by eliminating those programs.
