Alberto Bringing Flash Flooding And High Winds To The Charlotte Region

Alberto's top winds weakened on Monday to 45 miles per hour (75 kph) when its center made landfall near Panama City, Florida, weather officials said, with a city fire official adding that the wind and rain knocked down trees but did not force any rescues.

Alberto is expected to produce heavy rainfall and flooding over western Cuba, South Florida and the Florida Keys, the National Hurricane Center said Sunday. A storm surge watch has been posted from the river to Mexico Beach, Florida.

Tornadoes are also possible tonight over parts of Georgia and southeast Alabama.

The remnants of Subtropical Depression Alberto dropped heavy rainfall as it surged through the Shoals on Tuesday, but authorities said no major issues were reported.

At 700 PM CDT (0000 UTC), the center of Subtropical Storm Alberto was located near latitude 30.9 North, longitude 86.1 West.

Swells generated by Alberto will continue to affect the eastern and northern Gulf Coast Tuesday, meteorologists said.

Flash flooding could take place in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia and the Carolinas through Tuesday morning, according to forecasts.

Canada govt steps in to buy controversial pipeline
The crown will use the expertise and management of the employees acquired from Kinder Morgan to get the pipeline built. Ottawa could also deploy the police and troops to maintain a barrier between protesters and construction workers.

At 06:00 GMT, Alberto was located about 90km south of Cozumel, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of 65km/h. The U.S. Golf Association canceled a practice round of the U.S. Women's Open Championship, being played at Shoal Creek, because of the weather and Alabama Power Co. said about 20,000 homes and businesses were without electricity Tuesday, most in the Birmingham area. "It was a constant rain but not a heavy rain", said Regina Myers, emergency management director in Walker County northwest of Birmingham.

At 8 AM the storm was SW of Tampa and moving North at 15 miles per hour and is forecasted to strengthen over the next few days.

Flood potential and storms from Alberto will headline the forecast over the next 2 to 3 days.

A flash flood watch remains in effect through Monday night in parts of the state.

Storm Alberto, the first named subtropical Atlantic storm of the year, has reached land, forcing an evacuation for thousands of Americans.

Alberto was more of a rainstorm than a wind threat, but the National Weather Service said at least one tornado had been confirmed. Grant Brown, the city's public information officer, said they had already finished a number of preparations such as clearing culverts to prepare for big rains but Sunday had turned into a "really nice day".
