Feds to announce Tuesday morning that Trans Mountain moving forward

The B.C. government is challenging the constitutionality of an Alberta bill that, if passed, could allow that province to restrict the export of refined oil into this province.

"We feel that it is important to directly and in person express our serious disagreement to Premier Horgan over the actions of the B.C. government to obstruct the Trans Mountain pipeline", he said in a statement Tuesday.

With just over a week to go until Kinder Morgan's deadline for abandoning the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion, no other companies have publicly come forward to say they'd be interested in taking over the project.

Kinder Morgan has ceased all non-essential spending on the project until it receives assurances it can proceed without delays, setting a May 31 deadline on getting those guarantees.

She says it's not business as usual because B.C. Premier John Horgan is trying to shut down the pipeline and take $15 billion out of the Canadian economy.

"While they are at the premiers meeting talking about how to spend that kind of money, I'll be here in Alberta talking about how we can earn that kind of money".

Premier Notley initially praised the Horgan move as a step in the right direction ("stepping back from the brink and abiding by the law") and suspended her wine boycott.

"We continue to engage in financial discussions on the way we are going to do that", Trudeau said.

Florida declares state of emergency ahead of storm Alberto
Heavy rains are still a possibility, with 3 to 5 inches possible over widespread areas and as much as 8 inches in spots. The National Weather Service said: "Swells from Alberto will create unsafe surf and rip currents along the Gulf Coast".

At the rally yesterday, one of the speakers was Cedar George-Parker from the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, who have been leading the community opposition to the pipeline in British Columbia.

Trudeau said Canada loses $15 billion a year because oil can not be exported anywhere but the United States, adding that the pipeline expansion opens up the option of exporting to Asian markets.

The NDP government in B.C. came to power past year - supported by the Green Party - after an election campaign in which it committed to working against the pipeline expansion owing to environmental concerns.

"A significant disruption in the supply of gasoline, diesel, and crude oil from Alberta to British Columbia would cause British Columbia irreparable harm", the document asserts.

From the NDP election platform: "The Kinder Morgan pipeline is not in B.C.'s interest ..."

He also said Canada's environmental protections for oceans and its climate change policies hinge on Canada being able to sell its natural resources even as the country begins to transition to cleaner sources of energy.

"It is not to stop the pipeline or prevent it", Eby argued.
