Students, parents outraged by caged tiger at high school prom in Miami

Florida's Christopher Columbus High School came under fire this weekend after students and parents discovered that decorations for the private Catholic school's jungle-themed prom included a caged tiger.

A handler is captured on cell phone video wheeling out a caged tiger on Friday as many Miami prom dance attendees from Christopher Columbus High School get out their cell phones to record the moment.

Student Marie-Christine Castellanos told WFOR-TV the prom didn't suit the tiger's needs and that tigers aren't a source of entertainment. "These are wild animals that are being abused and used for profit", she said.

PETA slammed the high school for the display, saying animals "do not need to be in a party situation".

For Ron Magill, a spokesman for ZooMiami, the tiger was in obvious distress.

"The tiger is clearly looking for a way to get out of that situation, it's not hard to interpret that behavior", Magill said.

A prom night for teenagers in Miami turned wild when organizers invited a surprise guest to the dance floor - a fully grown tiger.

Italy's Buffon to play last game for Juventus on Saturday
Buffon retired from the national team in November when Italy lost a World Cup playoff to Sweden but recently returned for friendlies. "But he won the Italian Cup and the seventh Scudetto in a row".

The tiger was actually apart of an ensemble of animals including birds, a lemur, two macaws and an African fox taking center stage at the event.

Paying to use big cats and other animals for entertainment means funding the cruel exploitation of animals.

"Back in my day, we were lucky to have refreshments and some streamers at prom", 53-year-old Carole Purcell told LifeZette.

"Upon reflection, we regret the decision to have live animals at our prom", David Pugh said. This incident in no way reflects our school's Marist values and/or accomplishments of our young men nor our sensitivity to animal rights. Why didn't anyone open the cage and see what would happen to these 'Brave and courageous fire performers?' 3. "We remain proud of the work we do in our community by raising awareness for pediatric cancer, autism and our homeless veterans, to name a few".

"That's what we call helicopter mode", Magill said.

The school said the animals were provided by a facility that's licensed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Thus men owe them kindness. In another statement the school claimed the tiger was "in a relaxed state" during the performance.
