Sharif compares Afghanistan, Pakistan's narratives in the wake of isolation

The Bangladesh success story

"The PML-N would like to set the record straight on the interview of PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif carried on Saturday by Dawn", the spokesman stated.

"We need to understand the ongoing dynamics and should support our armed forces shoulder to shoulder", he added stressing that an worldwide conspiracy to isolate Pakistan is being hatched.

Sharif also said in the interview that Pakistan's failure saw it getting isolated in world affairs despite making sacrifices. Afghanistan's narrative is being accepted, but ours is not.

"Nawaz Sharif said that he neither said any such thing, nor can it be said on the basis of assumptions that planning for the Mumbai attacks was done in Pakistan", said the PM, who met Nawaz shortly after the NSC meeting ended. "Explain it to me", he asked, in a clear reference to the Mumbai killings blamed on 10 Pakistani terrorists. He had questioned why his country had not been able to complete the trial in the case yet.

While Pakistan's civil and military spokespersons may have been denying these allegations, Sharif in an interview to Dawn newspaper exposed the reality by admitting that "Militant organizations are active". During the meeting we made a resolve that Pakistan's soil will not be allowed to be used for terrorism, he added. "President (Vladimir) Putin has said it. President Xi (Jinping) has said it", Mr Sharif said.

"Nawaz Sharif started attacking judiciary and the military after Panama Papers", Khan said. This has to stop.

"After all, it was Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who, resisting all pressures, took the most important and most hard decision on national security in Pakistan's history by making the country a nuclear power in May 1998", he said.

Tech and health care drop stocks lower; bond yields rise
Markets focused early on economic reports with sales at USA retailers rising for a second straight month in April. Germany's DAX fell 0.1 percent after new data showed the country's economy slowed in the first quarter.

Nawaz Sharif, however, is not the first person to puncture the Pakistani lie.

"He hurt the national interest of Pakistan by violating his oath as an ex-prime minister and should be proceeded against for treason", he said.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz on Monday said that her father, former premier Nawaz Sharif, is now being termed a traitor after opponents failed to curtail the popularity of his "narrative demanding respect for vote", ARY News reported.

"Nawaz Sharif has fired a bullet at Pakistan and state institutions", he told Arab News.

Indian media seized upon the comments as proof that Pakistan has backed armed groups to attack targets in India.

"Besides many other refusals during the investigation, the denial of access to the principal accused, Ajmal Qasab, and his extraordinarily hurried execution became the core impediment in the finalisation of the trial", the Pakistan NSC statement said. They reveal that while both countries are publicly acknowledging that Pakistan is acting against terrorism - and China is going the full distance by preventing the United Nations listing of Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar as an global terrorist - both countries, in private and at the highest levels, are asking Pakistan to stop supporting terrorist groups acting outside the country.
