82 women protesting at Cannes win a pledge for more women directors

Filmmaker Rohena Gera, who was among the 82 women who protested against gender gap at the 71st Cannes Film Festival, says it was a very moving experience to express solidarity against the "barriers" that women face across the world in different ways.

Once these guidelines are implemented, the festival should organically see a sharp uptick in films directed by women.

The protest comes after a period of turmoil in the industry following allegations of sexual harassment. The line was set up for the first time this year following four alleged attacks at the festival in previous years by Weinstein who has denied the claims. He has always denied engaging in non-consensual sex.

The timing was flawless.

On today's premiere of French Director Eva Husson's "Girls of the sun" (Les Filles Du Soleil) will be talking for a long time.

Some of the 82 were familiar.
