Pak-Trained Man Planned High-Profile Assassinations In Mumbai, Arrested

Lord Nazeer says Nawaz Sharif is trying to undermine Pakistan’s institutions

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a 32-year-old terror suspect - who recently arrived in the city after allegedly receiving arms training in Pakistan - in a joint operation with the Kolkata police's Special Task Force (STF). "The team kept a watch on his movements and his communication with terror groups on the internet", said an ATS source. "After staying in Sharjah for a few days, Mirza is believed to have moved to Dubai from where he traveled to Karachi", said another officer. "It is too early to comment on the matter", the ATS chief, additional director general Atul Kulkarni, told TOI. ATS officials found that Khan was trained in operating firearms and weapons, making explosives, conducting terror strikes, and committing arson as a terror method. Mirza, according to the ATS, had received training in handling of explosives and use of high-end and sophisticated firearms in Pakistan.

Officials said that the man, who was arrested by the anti-terror agency's Juhu unit on May 11, had been to Pakistan, via Sharjah and Dubai, for training at a camp operated by a terror outfit. He was then called to Sharjah from Mumbai, and from there he was taken to Karachi. "Crowded places with the presence of foreigners, government establishments were on their hit list and after getting, trained to carry out attacks in Mumbai, he returned to the city with a plan", said a senior police officer. The officer added, "He is being interrogated to find details of his contacts".
