Communal clashes in Aurangabad city of Maharashtra; 02 dead, over 40 injured

At least two persons lost their lives and more than 35, including several police personnel, were seriously injured after violent clashes between two groups in Maharashtra's Aurangabad on Friday night. Internet services were also suspended.

Rioters set fire to around 100 shops and 80 vehicles, the official said, adding that 37 persons have been arrested for rioting and arson since Friday night.

However, the police was able to control the violence.

The clashes erupted in on Friday after water connection to a religious place of one particular community was reportedly disconnected.

The tension, coupled with rumours resulted in stone pelting in the adjoining areas of Motikaranja, Raja Bazar, Shahgunj, Chelipura, Anguribagh. Ten policemen, including including an assistant commissioner, Govardhan Kolekar, and a couple of police station chiefs, including inspector Hemant Kadam and inspector Shripad Paropkari, were injured in the ensuing violence. Taking to Twitter, he expressed regret over the "deteriorating" law and order situation in Maharashtra and laid the blame on the CM's door, lambasting him for failing in his duties as the state's home minister. "Following this, a rumour circulated that members of two communities were involved in a fight", he said explaining the situation. Appealing for peace, the NCP leader asked police to take local people in confidence while handling the tense situation. "Seven companies of State Reserve Police Force and one company of Riot Control Police have been deployed in the sensitive areas of the city". Meanwhile, a TOI report claims that the violence took place after goons demanded money from from a garage mechanic for drinking liquor. "Some anti-social elements indulged in setting ablaze shops and vehicles in the locality", Bharambe told the media. The youths from different groups burned some shops and also attacking each other with some pelting stones. "Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed, if group of people are found to be breaking the curfew we will take strict action against them".
