Chili's Grill & Bar Says "Data Incident" May Have Exposed Credit Card Data

Chili's Grill & Bar, along with Brinker International, the company that owns the restaurant, announced this weekend that a recent "data incident" may have compromised some customers' payment information.

The chain also says only "certain" restaurants were impacted, and only in March and April of 2018, though they are still working with security experts to evaluate the incident.

They said that malware was used to gather card information including credit and debit card numbers and names of cardholders.

The chain recommended not closing bank and credit card accounts but to monitor statements for accuracy.

Upon learning of this incident, we immediately activated our response plan. We deeply value our relationships with our Guests and sincerely apologize to those who may have been affected. The statement confirmed that no personal data such as social security numbers or dates of birth was breached as the company does not collect that type of information.

"However, out of an abundance of caution, we recommend that you remain vigilant and consider taking one or more [.] steps to avoid identity theft, obtain additional information, and protect your personal information". Chili's has not released the restaurant locations affected by the breach as of yet. The breach did not occur at all locations.
