Trump thanks North Korea for 'smart' move to dismantle nuclear-test site

North Korea outlined steps Saturday to dismantle its nuclear testing site - and confirmed that global journalists, including from the United States and the United Kingdom, would be invited to watch this month as its tunnels are blown up.

North Korea's foreign ministry says explosives will be used to collapse tunnels at the northeastern testing ground.

On Saturday, the country confirmed that it will invite reporters from the United States and South Korea to "ensure transparency of discontinuance of the nuclear test".

However, observers noted that there has been no mention of foreign experts being allowed access to the site.

He is now set for the first ever face-to-face meeting between a sitting American president and a North Korean leader, scheduled for June 12 in Singapore. The test ground will be completely closed after the process, KCNA said. Earlier this month, North Korean officials asked to start an air route between the Pyongyang and Incheon, South Korea, airspace regions.

Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in affirmed their commitment to the goal of "realising, through complete denuclearisation, a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula" at a summit in the Demilitarized Zone that divides their countries last month.

Until recently, Mr Kim and Mr Trump had been trading personal insults and threats, heightening tensions over North Korea's nuclear programme.

Celtics Vs. Cavs Schedule: Dates, Start Times For Eastern Conference Finals
Embiid scored 27 points in Game 5, going 9-for-18 from the floor with 12 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks in 39 minutes. Brown started at shooting guard after coming off the bench in the previous three games because of a strained right hamstring.

The incident happened following the September 3, 2017 detonation of a nuclear bomb estimated at around 100 kilotons, which is 10 times stronger than any of the previous five tests conducted by North Korea.

Kim also said that the North's invitation of foreign journalists shows the country will carry out the operation in a transparent manner.

Prior to the historic U.S.

Analysts said the move was positive but limited in its scope.

"Now that North Korea has accepted in principle that agreements should be verified, USA negotiators should hold them to this standard for any subsequent agreement", said Adam Mount, a senior defense analyst at the Federation of American Scientists.

The spectacle of the North shuttering and even destroying its nuclear facilities is not new.

Kim is expected to demand that the USA pledge to accept the continuation of North Korea's hereditary regime in return for vowing to achieve denuclearization on the divided peninsula in a "phased" and "synchronized" manner. However, in spite of its pledge to stop testing, North Korea has given no indication it is willing to go beyond statements of broad conceptual support for denuclearization by unilaterally abandoning a nuclear weapons program its ruling family has seen as crucial to its survival.
