Fed Up Homeland Security Chief Nearly Resigned After Trump Publicly Berated Her

Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen testifies to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington

The president has told friends that he believes chief of staff John Kelly, with whom he has a strained relationship, foisted his deputy Nielsen upon him, according to two of the people, complaining that he didn't know what he was getting.

His comments come as the Trump administration, under the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, has moved to revoke this special status and to expel tens of thousands of protected immigrants.

According to the Times, Trump launched a tirade about the lack of progress in deterring immigrants at the U.S. -Mexico border.

DHS later issued a statement calling the Times article "false" and saying that Nielsen "is hard at work today on the President's security-focused agenda.′".

At the meeting, Trump railed against her for failing to stop illegal border crossings.

While border apprehensions dipped a year ago to their lowest levels ever, the numbers have been ticking up in recent months, returning to more typical historical levels.

On AT&T-Time Warner merger, Giuliani again contradicts White Hou
On the day AT&T announced its bid to buy Time Warner, the parent company of CNN, then-candidate Trump said he opposed the deal. AT&T paid Essential Consultants LLC, a firm set up by Cohen, a total of $600,000 over 2017 for the advice.

"The President is rightly frustrated that existing loopholes and the lack of Congressional action have prevented this administration from fully securing the border and protecting the American people", Nielsen said in the statement.

"And now Kelly says to our own John Roberts - good reporting - 'I wanted to call her to make sure she wasn't going to quit.' So I guess the cover story didn't hold very long", he added. "We are a country of laws and the president and his administration will enforce them", she responded. Another report from Politico noted that Trump is growing increasingly frustrated with Nielsen, and the knives may be coming out for her. At the meeting, both Nielsen and Attorney General Jeff Sessions tried in vain to explain to Donald Trump that the federal government can not completely shut down the border. But Nielsen stood her ground, citing the law in certain instances, the source said.

Donald Trump threw a 30-minute tantrum when he was told that the federal government doesn't have the authority to completely shut down the USA border, a new report claims.

One persistent issue has been Trump's belief that Nielsen and other officials in the department were resisting his direction that parents should be separated from their children when families cross illegally into the United States, several officials said.

"The president is committed to fixing our broken immigration process and also our porous borders". Over the past year, the president has been systematically ending Temporary Protected Status for immigrant groups who were granted amnesty in the United States following natural disasters or political upheaval in their own countries.
