Trump heralds capture of five Islamic State commanders

A man walks past a campaign poster of Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al Abadi ahead of the parliamentary election in Najaf Iraq

The second leader, Ismail al-Eithawi, who had been captured previously, was said to have been told to use his phone to summon the others.

This will be the first general election since Iraq's historical victory over the militant group Islamic State (IS) in December past year.

Hashimi described Eithawi and Jamal as the two most senior Islamic State figures ever to be captured alive. Jamal was shown on Iraqi state television on Wednesday night, wearing a yellow prison uniform.

The joint Iraqi-American intelligence team then persuaded Ithawi to contact several of his ISIS colleagues who had been hiding in Syria and lure them across the border, the officials said.

Saudis will seek nuclear weapon if Iran does: minister
Saudi Arabia now pumps around 10 million bpd, but has capacity of around 12 million bpd - a surplus of two million bpd. Members of Iranian parliament struck a similar tone, burning a US flag and chanting "death to America".

Late last month, Daesh spokesman Abu Hassan al-Muhajir stated that members of the terror outfit would attack polling stations, voters and candidates during national Iraqi elections, which are set to take place on Saturday.

Abadi declared final victory last December over the ultra-hardline group, which overran a third of Iraq in 2014.

Islamic State, however, continues to carry out bombings, assassinations and ambushes, and remains active in neighbouring Syria where it has also lost most of its territory.

Islamic State militants last month restated their loyalty to Baghdadi, in what is believed to be their first public pledge of allegiance to him since his self-proclaimed caliphate in Syria and Iraq collapsed previous year.
