Kevin Kamenetz, Baltimore County Executive and Democratic candidate for governor, dies

Baltimore County Executive and Maryland Democratic gubernatorial candidate Kevin Kamenetz 60 awoke in his home outside of Baltimore around 2 a.m. feeling ill and was pronounced dead an hour later after being transported to St. Joseph Medical Center

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz - a Democratic candidate for the 2018 gubernatorial contest - died early this morning at University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center following a cardiac arrest. He was 60-years-old and leaves behind a wife and two teenage sons.

Kamenetz began feeling ill early Thursday and went with his wife to a volunteer fire station nearby, where his condition quickly deteriorated, Baltimore County Fire Department spokeswoman Elise Armacost said at a news conference. My sincerest thoughts and prayers are with Jill and their two sons'.

Kamenetz was in his second term as County Executive when he died.

Kevin kamenetz was born November 26, 1957, in Lochearn, Maryland.

Gov. Hogan ordered state flags to be flown at half-staff in memory of Kamenetz.

In 1994, he was elected to the Baltimore County Council, where he served four terms. County Executive Kamenetz was a dedicated public servant who gave 24 years of service to Baltimore County. Governor Hogan, Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, Congressman Elijah Cummings and Senator Chris Van Hollen are among the many local and state leaders to express their shock and sorrow on the passing of Kamenetz. Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker, who attended the forum Wednesday night with Kamenetz, said in a statement he was "stunned" by the news and offered his condolences to Kamenetz, his family and the people of Baltimore County.

Several politicians have tweeted their condolences to the family of Kamenetz, including current Maryland Governor, Larry Hogan.
