Pittsburgh prepares officers for possible riots in case Trump fires Mueller

Robert S. Mueller III leaves a meeting on Capitol Hill on June 21

The surprise visit of Rosenstein to the White House sparked speculation that Trump was about to fire him. It added that it now has more than 800 protest rallies planned and had received 300,000 RSVPs. A spokesperson for Manafort declined to comment.

Rod Rosenstein reportedly saved his job by reminding President Trump last week that he's not a "target" of special counsel Robert Mueller's probe - for now anyway.

Trump has long bristled at the special counsel investigation into possible collusion between his campaign and Russian Federation. The Special Counsel's Office filed a copy of an August 2 memo from Rosenstein to Mueller that identified several subjects related to Manafort as being under Mueller's authority, but Downing said that didn't resolve the question of whether the original appointment was valid. The Pittsburgh commander warned that the move "would result in a large protest within 24 hours" and said the protest "would be semi-spontaneous and more than likely to happen on short notice".

President Trump may not officially be a target, but Mr. Mueller has not ruled out making him one at some point in the future, according to a U.S. official with knowledge of the unfolding investigation.

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto confirmed that preparations are being made for potential riots, but states that the measures are not a cause for concern, via Twitter. It would not be necessary, McConnell said, because Trump would not fire Mueller.

Rudy Giuliani is joining Trump's legal team
Giuliani said he formalized his decision in recent days, including over dinner last week at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The bombastic Republican spoke with Trump Thursday about his legal strategy in a conversation that included lawyer Jay Sekulow .

On Wednesday evening, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte informed the panel's ranking Democrat, Representative Jerrold Nadler, that he plans to issue a subpoena for the seven memos former FBI director James Comey wrote documenting his interactions with Trump, which are part of the Mueller investigation. Thousands of people in cities across the country have signed up to participate in a series of "emergency" protests called "Nobody is Above the Law".

Mueller or Rosenstein being fired has spurred members of Congress to push for legislation to protect the special counsel. "You've got it, do what you want, '" Downing argued.

"As good as he is, I don't think the deputy attorney general could see into the future", she said.

"They've been saying I'm going to get rid of them for the last three months, four months, five months", Trump told reporters. Dreeben denied that Mueller had been given a "blank check" to investigate whatever he wanted - the regulations still required Mueller to go to Rosenstein if new matters came up, he said.

The source also said the Cohen investigation, together with the abrupt departure of John Dowd from Trump's legal team, slowed, but did not halt talks about Trump sitting down for a potential interview with Mueller.
