Vehicle, bodies of family recovered in Mendocino Co. River, son remains missing

Canadian authorities said the man seen in the Facebook video has been under investigation

The family was officially reported as missing to the San Jose Police Department on April 8, the statement added.

The body of Siddhant Thottapilly was found at about 4 p.m. submerged in the Eel River about 6 miles (9.6 kilometers) downstream from where the family vehicle reportedly crashed, Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Capt. Gregory L. Van Patten said in a statement. On Sunday the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Coroner's Division was also able to identify the adult female recovered from the Eel River on April 13, 2018 as being Soumya Thottapilly, 38.

The couple's 12-year-old Siddhant Thottapilly remains missing.

An inter-agency search and rescue team in California also recovered personal belongings of the four members of the family from Santa Clarita in California, who were believed to be travelling through Humboldt and Mendocino County on US-101 while on a vacation, early last week.

Witnesses in Mendocino County - the same Northern California locality where another family died last month after their auto was possibly driven off a cliff - reported seeing an SUV being swept away in a river.

Miami Marlins vs. New York Yankees, 4-16-2018 - Prediction & Preview
Jeter did not attend the game, the first between the teams since the former Yankees captain became Marlins CEO last October. Eight days later, Stanton will attempt to satisfy fans and will be facing a familiar opponent with mostly unfamiliar faces.

A team of more than 20 searchers discovered the auto lying submerged between 4 and 6 feet of water and found the bodies inside the vehicle, the sheriff's office said. The smell of gasoline coming from the water led divers to the vehicle, which was covered in sediment and resting at least four feet underwater, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office.

Dozens of searchers had been combing the river with Jet Skis, boats and kayaks, along with dive teams. They were driving from Portland, Oregon to San Jose in Southern California.

Sandeep was a Vice-President at Union Bank, while Soumya was a stay-at-home parent. He grew up in Surat, Gujarat, and settled down in the U.S. over 15 years ago, a relative said. The family was last heard from in the town of Klamath on April 5. Their son, Siddhant, 12, remained missing.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is reportedly contributing to the search operations launched to locate the Indian family that has been missing for over a week in California.

The incident happened about 30 miles from the area where another family's SUV plunged 100 feet down a cliff off the scenic Pacific Coast Highway and into the ocean.
