Kendrick Lamar has won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music

On Monday, the rapper was awarded the 2018 Pulitzer Prize in Music for his fourth studio album, DAMN.

Organisers said it offered "affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life".

Kendrick Lamar kicked off the 60th Annual Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden on Sunday in New York City. "DAMN." is the first non-classical or jazz work to win the award, according to the associated press.

The 30-year-old Californian won the prize for his album Damn released in April 2017.
