Commonwealth Games Chairman Peter Beattie apologises for disastrous Closing Ceremony

With 26 gold medals, India has finished at number three at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) which concludes today at Gold Coast in Australia.

While the Closing Ceremony and the Games were broadcast on Channel Seven, Griggs said that it wasn't the network's decision not to air athletes entering the village.

There were reports many began leaving the venue less than an hour into the event.

Channel 7 hosts Jo Griggs and Basil Zempilas couldn't hide their disappointment or anger, as they slammed organisers, and accused them of destroying a beloved tradition.

Most importantly, it is a wake up call for all the senior pros. that they no longer can take their places in the national team for granted, as these youngsters are snapping at their heels and how.

Zempilas also pointed out the speeches from the dignitaries dragged on for "way too long" and were a little "self-indulgent".

Beattie said they "got it wrong" and that athletes should have been part of the ceremony. "But it also needs to be legitimate sport and I think the performances here speak for themselves". I should not have spoken.

"We're in the process of talking about these things and yes, we want to take the Commonwealth slightly further", she said, taking inspiration from swimming's Duel, which pitted the United States against Australia or Europe. The Indian men, who had won silver in the last two editions, did not really get going apart from the final group game against England when they pumped in two goals in the last three minutes to top their pool.

"We made a mistake", he said, and claimed the organising committee didn't want exhausted athletes to have to stand outside for ages waiting to come in.

"It was a shame that the flag-bearer wasn't recognised".

"When I decide something with my head and heart than even my husband can not stop me. I am sorry, and if I get a chance, I will apologise to kurt this morning".

"Should they have been part of the actual ceremony that was broadcast?"

Inexplicably, after being elected flag bearer at the closing ceremony, para-sports gold medallist Kurt Fearnley barely featured on our screens, despite it being the moment that all Aussies were waiting for following his T54 marathon victory. "They made the decision not to have the athletes enter the stadium". We missed out on all of that.

In fact, Carrara Stadium wasn't even close to being filled with a host of empty seats remaining and at one point volunteers were on stand by to fill those empty seats. "There will be a ceremony to honour them and the President (Cyril Ramaphosa) will also be there", she said.

"I love cricket more than I love athletics but the fact that I could not see the ball made it hard for me to play the sport".

Toby Findlay said watching Indigenous band Yothu Yindi was "fantastic", but he left early because "the last bit wasn't great".

"I was forced to come".
