Alfie Evans' parents lose legal bid in attempt to save son

Alfie Evans' parents return to court amid Alder Hey protests

Tom Evans and Kate James had hoped to persuade appeal court judges that their 23-month-old son Alfie should receive life-support treatment overseas.

Alfie, from Bootle, Merseyside, has been at Alder Hey since December 2016 with an undiagnosed degenerative brain disease.

He sought to overturn Mr Justice Hayden's decision last week that Alfie's parents may not remove him from Alder Hey hospital.

The parents of a 23-month-old boy at the centre of a life-support treatment battle have lost their latest legal battle to have their child treated overseas.

Though doctors at the Vatican-owned Bambino Gesù children's hospital in Rome said that they are unable to cure Alfie, they can undertake operations which will help him breathe and eat which would allow him to live for an "undefined period".

"Their views and rights do not take precedence and do not give them the choice to make the decisions regarding Alfie", he stated.

What did the judges rule?

"As has been determined with considerable clarity in this case, Alfie's best interests are determinative and the court has decided what treatment he should or should not receive".

Allegiant Air responds to critical '60 Minutes' report
Allegiant is St.Pete Clearwater Airport's biggest customer with more than 14,000 flights a year and $2 million in airport revenue. Older planes can be operated very safely, but they tend to burn more fuel and require more maintenance.

"The awful reality was that nearly the entirety of Alfie's brain has been eroded, leaving only water and cerebral spinal fluid", Moylan said, reading from Hayden's previous decision, according to The Sun. He argued that it was a deprivation of Alfie's liberty in not letting him travel to a different hospital.

The woman claimed she had been verbally abused by supporters of Alfie Evans' family at Alder Hey in Liverpool and called a protest held there "a circus".

Justice Moylan denied permission to appeal to the Supreme Court.

The couple, from Liverpool, have lost cases in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and European Court of Human Rights.

Mr Justice Hayden endorsed an end-of-life care plan for Alfie on Wednesday. The hospital issued a statement asking the protesters to lower the volume of their demonstrations and to stop honking their vehicle horns since it was disturbing some of the patients, according to The Guardian.

Alfie's parents made one last legal attempt to wrest control over the treatment of their son at the Court of Appeal.

"We want (them) to know they can't break us, we're never going to back down", said Mr Evans.
