Shots fired at SC judge's Lahore residence

After hearing about the incident, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar reached Justice Ejaz ul Ahsan's residence this morning and condemned the incident. No casualties were reported in both incidents.

Opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah said a complete investigation should be carried out into the attack and demanded of the government to take foolproof security measures for judges' security.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also condemned incident of firing at the residence of Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan in Lahore, said a press release by the PM Office. The chief justice is said to be overseeing the situation himself.

According to a spokesperson for the Government of Punjab, the JIT, to be headed by additional inspector-general of police (IG) Muhammad Tahir, will comprise Sultan Chaudhry, the deputy inspector-general for investigation, alongside representatives from the Military Intelligence (MI), Inter-Services Intelligence (IS), and Intelligence Bureau (IB). Meanwhile, PSO to CM Punjab, who arrived at Justice Ahsan's residence, was not allowed to meet the top court judge by the SC administration.

Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the country's former president, called for a high-level judicial probe into the incident.

Justice Ahsan was the part of the five-member bench that heard the high profile Panama Papers case which led to the disqualification of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry.

Further, Justice Ahsan often spends his weekends in Lahore, where he, along with the chief justice, presides several cases related to public welfare in Supreme Court's Lahore registry.
