Russia says alleged chemical attack in Syria was staged by UK

The United States is preparing new sanctions on Russian Federation over its continued support of Syrian President Bashar-al Assad, the USA ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, said Sunday. This is a promise.

The strikes were a response to a suspected chemical weapons attack on the Syrian town of Douma last weekend which killed dozens of civilians.

"We have the irrefutable data that this was staged... and the special services of a country, which is now seeking to be in the first ranks of the Russophobic campaign, were involved in this staged event", he said.

In a nationwide address on Friday night, Trump announced the U.S., along with the United Kingdom and France, would launch "precision airstrikes" in Syria.

Across Western capitals opposition to military action also grew.

He accused the West of carrying out a "pre-designed scenario". "I really, really am".

Russian Federation has described the reports of a chemical attack as a "provocation" created to justify Western intervention.

State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said this week that Russian Federation "ultimately bears responsibility for the brutal attacks", which the Syrian government has also denied.

On Thursday, US officials said they had blood and urine samples from victims which had tested positive for chlorine and a nerve agent, according to a NBC News report.

Russia's Colonel General Sergei Rudskoi said at a press conference on Saturday: 'This fact of American aggression shows that United States of America is not interested in conducting an objective investigation, wishes to disrupt the process of peaceful resolution in Syria and destabilise the situation in the region and has nothing to do with the previously proclaimed goals of fighting global terrorism'. "Increasing tensions and the inability to reach a compromise in the establishment of an accountability mechanism threaten to lead to a full-blown military escalation".

Commentators on state TV argued that Trump and British Prime Minister Theresa May launched the attack to distract attention from their political problems at home. "A lack of accountability emboldens those who would use such weapons by providing them with the reassurance of impunity", the secretary-general said.

She told an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council called by Russian Federation that should the USA and its allies decide to act in Syria it will be to defend "a bedrock worldwide norm that benefits all nations" - the prohibition on the use of chemical weapons.

Though when prodded about whether or not the offensive would continue, he made it clear that it would if there were any subsequent chemical weapon attacks carried out by Assad's regime. Russian Federation said its experts found no trace of chemical agents. "If Russia had lived up to its commitment, there would be no chemical weapons in Syria, and we would not be here today".
