Haley warns Assad: Trump 'watching,' U.S. work in Syria 'not done'

FILE - President Trump speaks in the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House on, April 13, 2018, in Washington, about the United States' military response to Syria's April 7 chemical weapons attack. And besides railing against former FBI Director James Comey hours ahead of ABC airing a highly anticipated interview that is sure to drive the news cycle, the president also touched on his much-derided tweet in which he utilized a highly loaded term.

In May 2003, less than two months after the US military launched its invasion and occupation of Iraq, President George W. Bush arrived on USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in the co-pilot's seat of a Navy fighter jet.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday defended his use of the phrase "mission accomplished" over the U.S. -led missile strikes on Syrian targets after it was seized on by the media. "Use often!" he tweeted on Sunday. So it appears we have another instance of the Fox-Trump feedback loop. And so I think everyone is going to feel it at this point. The U.S. and its allies accused Assad's forces of using chemical weapons, a claim Syria and Russian Federation have rejected. We set their chemical weapons program back years. Our job was never to take Assad out. Are we staying there now to topple Assad, to counter Iran, to check Russian Federation, to help the Kurds, to buttress Israel, to rebuild our relationships with Turkey?

Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Haley listed three aims for the United States: ensuring that chemical weapons are not used in any way that poses a risk to USA interests, that Daesh is defeated and that there is a good vantage point to watch what Iran is doing.

"We disagree with anyone bombing our country no matter what the reason is", he said in a phone interview.

She also acknowledged Sunday that relations between the US and Russian Federation, an Assad supporter, are "very strained".

"You will see that Russian sanctions will be coming down", Haley said on CBS's "Face the Nation".

Assad also declined to comment on calls by the U.S. State Department to declare alleged Syrian stockpiles of chemical weapons, Zheleznyak said.

The singer wrote in a letter to her fan club members telling them that she "might look a bit different" following the procedures. The new image is one of the singer's more recent photos of herself following her facial injury last November.

"Good souls will not be humiliated", Assad tweeted, while hundreds of Syrians gathered in Damascus, the capital, where they flashed victory signs and waved flags in scenes of defiance after the early morning barrage.

Muzna Dureid, a Syrian who came to Montreal a year and a half ago, agrees that Friday's strikes don't go far enough in putting pressure on the Assad government.

Much like US statements, Britain's foreign secretary Boris Johnson said there are no plans to launch additional military strikes against Syria, but that his country and its allies will consider further action if Assad uses chemical weapons against his people in the future.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin reaffirmed the Kremlin's skepticism about the allies' Douma claim, saying Russian military experts had found no trace of the attack.

The strikes suggest that Trump may have reset America's red line for military intervention in Syria over the use of chemical weapons.

"I say to the foreign secretary, I say to the prime minister, where is the legal basis for this?"

"We of course know that our work in Syria is not done", she said.
