Boston is strong five years after Boston Marathon bombing

Brandon Korona, an Army veteran whose left leg was injured in an IED explosion in Afghanistan talks with Dr. Matthew Carty at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in Boston

"It is with deep regret that I have to withdraw from tomorrow's Boston Marathon", the 26-year-old said in a statement.

An American woman hasn't won the Boston Marathon since Lisa Larsen Rainsberger in 1985.

And on the eve of the 2018 marathon, the mayor believes the tragedy has united the city.

American Jordan Hasay, one of the top women's challengers in Monday's Boston Marathon, has withdrawn with a heel injury, officials said on Sunday.

On the men's side, American Galen Rupp - who won the Chicago Marathon in October - looks to emerge victorious after a second-place finish in the 2017 Boston Marathon. Hasay, who is part of the Nike Oregon Project, finished in third place previous year.

For all the impact made by Hasey in recent months, she was soundly beaten over 15 kilometres recently by Molly Huddle.

The run will be noticeably different for him this year.

Hasay, " NY Marathon victor Shalane Flanagan and fellow Americans Desiree Linden along with Molly Huddle had been likely to battle Kenyan defending victor Edna Kiplagat to end the state's 33-year wait patiently for a home victor from both girls'therefore race.

The question will be how much longer Kiplagat, now 38, can maintain her winning form.

Due to stagnant wages and rising rents, family homelessness in Boston has increased 34% in the past four years alone. Rupp took a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics then followed his Boston debut runner-up effort with a Chicago victory.

The fastest man in the field, however, is Ethiopia's Tamirat Tola, second behind Kirui at last summer's World Championships, who set a personal best of 2:04:06 in January at the Dubai Marathon.
