Air China flight forced to land for 'security' reason

Mid-air scare Fountain pen wielding passenger forces emergency landing

As per CAAC, all of the passengers have been safely deboarded, Xinhua reported.

The Chinese Civil Aviation Administration has confirmed a flight attendant was held "under duress" by a passenger onboard an Air China flight from the central Chinese city of Changsha to Beijing on Sunday morning.

The flight took off from Changsha, the capital of southern Hunan province, at 8:40am (local time) and was scheduled to arrive at Beijing Capital International Airport at about 11:00 am. It also added that the matter was successfully handled by 1.17 PM.

Police in Zhengzhou's Henan province said in a statement that the alleged hostage-taker had a history of mental illness and suffered an unspecified "sudden" psychological disorder when he grabbed the flight attendant.

It identified the man only by his surname, Xu (徐), and said he was 41 and from Anhua County in Hunan.

The Zhengzhou airport informed that it immediately activated emergency measures so that the passengers who faced an emergency landing were in a stable mood.

Air China said in the post that the plane made the unplanned landing owing to public safety concerns and that the police and civil aviation authorities were taking care of the situation.

This shocking photo appears to show the Air China flight attendant being held hostage close to the flight deck door at the front of the aircraft.

All passengers, except the suspect in the attack, left the plane.
