Unnao rape victim's family alleges harassment by BJP MLA's goons

Union minister of human resource development Prakash Javadekar addresses a press conference on the issue of Kathua and Unnao rape case at BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Sunday

He was arrested the same day after the Allahabad High Court ordered said that Sengar was "influencing" the law and order machinery after pulling up the state government a day before for the delay in action against the lawmaker. After interrogation for 16 hours, he was taken into custody on Saturday and sent to judicial custody. The 17-year-old's mother, who is the complainant in the case, has alleged that Shashi was present in the courtyard of the house when the MLA raped her daughter. The father died on April 9 during treatment while in judicial custody.

Sources said, "The central agency chose to arrest the MLA when he failed to satisfactorily reply to questions during interrogation". The court will monitor the investigation and asked the CBI to file a status report on May 2, the next date of hearing.

The incident sparked massive outrage in the country, with people calling for speedy justice in the case.

The agency arrested a woman who is a close associate of the prime accused, BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. Shashi Singh, allegedly lured the victim to BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar on the day of alleged crime on the promise of providing a job, news agency PTI reported. CBI officials said they would question the MLA at length and would take him to Unnao to reconstruct the scene of the crime and to collect evidence against him.

The locals here feel the alleged role of BJP members in the Unnao and Kathua rape cases have angered as well as frightened them.

"The real culprit of Unnao's victim, who was raped reportedly in June 2017, and who pleaded at the doorstep of the BJP CM even attempting self-immolation is no one but the Chief Minister and he should immediately be sacked", said Surjewala.
