Morrow shines in Jets' first playoff victory over Wild

Minnesota Wild left wing Marcus Foligno is stopped by Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck with defensive help from Jets' defenseman Tyler Myers in the first period of an NHL hockey game on Sunday

Last night's 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild wasn't the first playoff victory the city of Winnipeg had ever seen, but the incarnation of the Jets that initially started the Winnipeg White Out now resides in Glendale, Ariz., as the Coyotes.

It's hard not to think that Game 1 might have gone differently for the Wild with Suter on the ice. The Wild are now 1-5 against the Jets including the regular season and these two playoff games. Then another turnover from Carson Soucy led to the winning goal from Jets defenseman Joe Morrow. We had a time in Washington, one time we had a noon game, Pittsburgh couldn't get in, they bussed in 10 hours before the game and outplayed us really badly. "They've been unreal for us throughout the first two games here". It can never be a culmination of many things that led to an end result.

Not only can he shoot a mean puck, Patrik Laine can apparently play a savage air-violin, too. That included three shots at Hellebuyck during a power play with Myers in the box for tripping.

Winnipeg has outshot Minnesota 84-37 over the first two games of the series. Kucherov, Tampa Bay's leading scorer this season, has 46 points (24 goals, 22 assists) in 47 career playoff games.

That's why you had to feel good for them this year - as they returned one of the great playoff traditions: the Winnipeg whiteout. The difference of course is that the Wild did not make those turnovers count on the scoreboard.

It was complete domination from the Jets on this particular night, as the Wild weren't competitive in the slightest. When the Wild are playing well they are generating offense off the shot.

"It's huge, " said center Eric Staal, who was reunited on a line with winger Mikael Granlund at Saturday's practice.

Despite youth and the lack of much playoff experience, the Jets are finding direction and guidance in their captain Blake Wheeler. "It's special to get a start, it's special to get starts in the playoffs and carry a team and try to be the block in the wall behind them".

Park opens season with a romp
However, Drexel used this as fuel to score three more runs, utilizing three consecutive RBI singles by Kent, Rush and DiMeo. Amanda White doubled to restart the offense and scored when Olivia Conner's fly to left was erred to extend the inning.

It was as dominant of a game as any Winnipeg Jets fan could dream of.

"It was a bad turnover", said Boudreau.

The Wild have now lost five straight road games in Winnipeg, getting outscored 23-12 in the process.

"He's a big guy and he's going to hit people", Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said. It was clear he was spent and was particularly worthless to the Wild from that point forward where the Jets just iced the puck continuously until the clock wound down to zeroes. Although once again battling a slow start and a red-hot opposing netminder, the Jets manhandled the visiting Wild, crushing the Americans in almost every facet of the game, finished atop Minnesota in the shot department 44-17, and ultimately, with a 4-1 victory.

Friday's second period very well may have been the most lopsided 20 minutes of hockey that either the Winnipeg Jets or the Minnesota Wild have experienced all season. They were then clinical with their own chances - the ideal way to steal a game on the road.

"There were a lot of moving parts and our depth took a major hit", Lalonde said.

After struggling in Game 1, Soucy answered every question thrown at him on Thursday, owning his mistakes and vowing to be better in Game 2.

Boudreau did say that Tyler Ennis may get back into the lineup tonight.
