Foxx responds to Speaker Ryan's Retirement announcement

House Speaker Paul Ryan announced Wednesday that he will not seek re-election after months of rumors to that effect

Ryan, a Republican from Wisconsin, announced Wednesday he will retire rather than seek another term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"He has a history of winning his district quite easily, even in more hard years for Republican candidates but now with his retirement, it creates an open seat and open seats are always more competitive for the party that didn't hold it going into the election", Murray says. At that time, almost half of Americans (46%) said they viewed the speaker unfavorably, up from 34% who said the same in November 2016. "It will take the eye off the ball of keeping a majority in the House", said one Republican veteran who asked not to be identified.

"What (Sanders) continues to say is we shouldn't jump the gun on impeachment".

"Realistically, the chances were low of anything getting done anyway", Feehery said.

Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson speaks with Libby Casey, on-air reporter who covers politics and accountability for the Washington Post, about that inflection point: Ryan's retirement, the prospect for Republicans in November, and the potential opportunity for Democrats.

As for the seat in Wisconsin, Ryan has represented the 1st District since 1998, and has easily won re-election since.

He said that Russian Federation has 'the necessary means for that and the Americans and their allies know that quite well'. The workers moreover accused the Islamic State extremist group of using mustard gasoline twice in 2015 and 2016.

Reacting to Ryan's looming exit, Trump hailed him as a good man, who legacy will live on. "It works better to have private conversations than public disputes", Ryan said. Trump paid tribute to Ryan as "a truly good man".

Ryan's plans have been the source of much speculation and will set off a scramble among his lieutenants to take the helm.

"I hate to see him go, but there's a time for everything", and he has "the right perspective", he said. Ryan has held the seat that covers parts of southeastern Wisconsin for almost 20 years and plans to finish out his term. Ryan has been a key fundraiser for Republican candidates, and his decision to call it quits is nearly certain to be a demoralizing blow to the party's candidates and donors. McCarthy's 2015 bid to become speaker failed in part because he didn't have the votes from the House Freedom Caucus, the chamber's roughly 35-member conservative wing.

Ryan, a prolific fundraiser for the party, raised $US11 million ($14 million) in the first quarter of 2018 to bring his total for the current election cycle to $54 million. Friends say he will bide his time and see whether the political climate and party change.

Jordan said his main goal, as he considers running, is to get party leaders to stick to a conservative agenda. Several GOP veterans have announced plans to retire in recent months and another, Rep. Dennis Ross of Florida, quickly followed Ryan on Wednesday. Ryan might eventually have met the same fate as his predecessor as speaker, John Boehner, who was forced out by his inability to control his party's conservatives. The race to fill the seat will not be easy. These findings are similar to CNN's December poll results based on party identification, in which 12% of Democrats and 66% of Republicans viewed Ryan favorably.

We need more Ryans, not fewer.
