Although the autopsy report was out on Saturday, the victim's body was found on April 6 near the Cricket Ground in Surat's Jiav Budiya Road.

But as India grapples with a spate of news about rape and murder of minor girls - including an 8-year-old in Jammu and Kashmir and a 16-year-old in Uttar Pradesh - the rage surging through the nation proved infectious. He further added that according to the nature of the injuries, "they seem to have been caused in the period ranging from one week to one day prior to the recovery of the body, suggesting that the girl might have been held captive, tortured and possibly raped". Police still haven't been able to identify the girl or her parents, but suspect she was murdered somewhere else and dumped near the ground.

Police are now going through the list of missing persons to see if the victim fits any profile.

At a time when the nation is boiling over Kathua and Unnao rape cases, another incident of same kind has been reported from Surat.

In Delhi, a teenager was kidnapped and raped for 10 days by her stalker.
