Woods officially enters US Open

Tiger Woods reacts after his birdie on the

Tiger Woods has officially committed to the season's second major at Shinnecock Hills in NY as the U.S. His first-ever appearance came at the site of this year's event - Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y.

Woods, who has played six tournaments in his comeback this year from spinal fusion surgery last April, has won the year's second major three times, his last coming in 2008 when he captured the most recent of his 14 major championships. Retief Goosen won the last U.S. Open held at the course in 2004.

Woods, who is playing a full schedule for the first time since 2013, finished inside the top 15 of his final three tournaments leading up to the Masters, including a T2 finish at the Valspar Championship in mid-March.

France 'has proof' Assad used chemical weapons
There was also no indication that Syrian government forces had entered Douma on Thursday, the Associated Press reported. The Syrian government has denied the allegations.

He is expected to play at either the Wells Fargo Championship or the Players Championship next month, in the build-up to the US Open. The USGA says Woods officially entered four days after he tied for 32nd in the Masters.

Woods, a three-time victor of this event, is using the last of his 10 exemptions from winning the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.

The start at Shinnecock will mark Woods' first in the men's second major of the season since 2015, when he shot 80 and 76 in the first two rounds at Chambers Bay and missed the cut.
