Kyrie Irving knee flaring up, to get second opinion

Marcus Smart

National Basketball Association team doctors are very good at their jobs, but as with any serious medical issue, a second opinion is a good idea (plus, team doctors are paid by the team, which can create a conflict of interest).

And while Danny Ainge says he probably needs surgery in the future, Irving is seeking another opinion.

Irving missed his fourth straight game Tuesday night while waiting for soreness to dissipate in the knee. Irving broke his left kneecap in Game 1 of the 2015 NBA Finals.

The pain Irving is experiencing is in his surgically repaired knee and screws once inserted have caused recent flare-ups. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN added there's no structural damage and rest might be the best remedy.

Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports later reported the news as well. That being said, if pushing any kind of surgery into the offseason might threaten anything with next season, this really does not feel worth it. "He's going to get a second opinion". And again, I think that's smart of him, but I haven't talked with him yet since that decision was made. "But he worked really hard to manage it throughout the entire season, and I think he's had some pretty good days recently, so I'm encouraged by it in the big picture", he said.

Senators block Yemen war powers resolution
Earlier Tuesday, Sanders said it would be cowardly and irresponsible for lawmakers to oppose putting his bill to a vote. In response, a Saudi-led Arab coalition began a bombing campaign in 2015, to restore the exiled government to power.

"Just continued soreness is what's made the decision not to play tonight and made the decision not to go on the trip, and seek outside counsel", Stevens said.

Stevens was asked if he is prepared for Irving not to return. "So we gotta make sure that we're as prepared as we can for that, then go from there". Boston has always played the long game with this rebuild, and they will do it with Irving as well.

Nobody wants to see Irving out for the year, especially with the season he is having.

"He's out because of knee soreness, not because we're choosing to rest him. That's the bottom line", Stevens said. When I actually do get back on the floor, I want to feel the level I expect myself to be at and I want to play at and being able to sustain it.

"Still the same thing that we've been talking about".
