Marcus Smart Out Indefinitely With A Torn Tendon In His Right Thumb

Celtics guard Marcus Smart

Smart will seek a second opinion this week to determine the severity of the tendon damage and whether surgery is needed.

Irving left Sunday's 99-97 loss to the Indiana Pacers at halftime after the knee soreness that caused him to miss last Monday's game in Chicago flared up again.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported it first, noting the injury was being called a sprain but was still under scrutiny. Not only will Boston's defense suffer mightily in Smart's absence as it did earlier this season, but this makes the Celtics' bench extremely thin with only Terry Rozier, Marcus Morris and Greg Monroe being considered healthy among the normal unit.

Narendra Modi says govt working towards making India tuberculosis-free by 2025
According to World Health Organisation (WHO), a total of 19,36,158 cases of TB were reported from India in 2016. TB is the leading infectious killer in India.

But now he's one of the many players on the mend, joining Kyrie Irving (knee), Jaylen Brown (concussion), Al Horford (illness), and Shane Larking (knee) on Boston's injured list.

If Smart is sidelined for an extended period of time (potentially into the playoffs), it would be a big hit to the Celtics. Smart is now going over his treatment options with the Celtics medical staff, but with no clear timetable to return, he should be sent to the waiver wire in most cases.

Smart is averaging 10.2 points per game for the Celtics, and he is their best on-ball perimeter defender.
