Drabu sacking: Central BJP may meet J and K leaders

Bukhari had recently said that the PDP was not averse to snapping ties with the BJP if justice was not done to the family of an eight-year-old girl, who was abducted, raped and murdered in Kathua in January.

There were reports that the coterie led by Mehbooba's maternal uncle and vice-president of PDP Sartaj Madni was unhappy with Drabu who was an authority in financial sector and was trying to stem out corruption by introducing the online system of payments by government departments.

Drabu was sacked from the council of ministers following his remarks about Kashmir.

The former Finance Minister said the "decision to drop me did come as a surprise but what was shocking was the manner and method of communicating it".

Asked if given an offer to return to party fold whether he would like to join the PDP again, Bashir said, "Action has been taken against me for none of my faults as I wasn't even asked to explain my position the time I was disengaged from the party. I was not accorded an opportunity to explain the context and the content of my speech", he said.

The former minister also said there was a need for civil society institutions to get involved and make interventions in their areas of influence "to resolve the social issues pervading our society".

Rasheed accused that NC and PDP of making an issue out of Drabu's statement without being honest to the political dispute itself. Yes, we condemned the statement he (Drabu) gave that this (Kashmir) was not an (political) issue.

"There were innuendoes that I said this or was made to say this with an ulterior motive", he said.

Haseeb Drabu, sacked as finance minister, was elected from Rajpora.

"Nor does it dent its image".

Giving details of events preceding his exit, Mr Drabu said he received a letter from AR Veeri, chairman of PDP's disciplinary committee, seeking an explanation about his statement which 'caused a serious dent to the image of the party'.

He also recalled how the terms and conditions based on which the current PDP-BJP alliance was formed, the Agenda of alliance, was drafted under his guidance.

After the controversy broke out, Drabu said he tried to reach Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti over the issue but failed to get an audience.

"Most of it what has happened is due to PDP's internal developments".
