Russian exile found dead in London amid ex-spy poisoning probe

Nikolai Glushkov has reportedly been found dead at his home in Britain

Glushkov was friends with Boris Berezovsky, a Russian oligarch who died in London in 2013.

The Metropolitan police also said that "the death is now being treated as an unexplained", while "there is no evidence to suggest a link to the incident in Salisbury".

The Metropolitan Police said they have assigned counter-terror officers to investigate the death "because of associations [Glushkov] is believed to have had".

Nikolai Glushkov, 68, was discovered dead late on Monday at an address in Clarence Avenue in suburban south-west London.

One of Glushkov's friends, newspaper editor Damian Kudryavtsev, confirmed the news on Facebook, and told HuffPost UK that nothing was known about the cause of death.

Sky News' home affairs correspondent, Mark White, said Mr Glushkov's home in New Malden, southwest London, is being treated as a crime scene.

The Guardian reported that Glushkov was close friends with Boris Berezovsky who fled to the United Kingdom in 1999 after falling out with the Russian president.

Glushkov said: "You have the deaths of Boris and Badri over a short period of time".

In the 1990s, Glushkov served as deputy managing director at Russia's flag carrier Aeroflot and worked for Berezovsky's LogoVAZ vehicle company.

Berezovsky was found dead in March 2013 with a scarf tied around his neck in the bathroom of a luxury mansion in Ascot, an affluent English town near the Queen's Windsor Castle, west of London.

Glushkov is believed to have two grown up children, Natasha and Dima, and an ex-wife who lives in Moscow.

Berezovsky is one of 14 Russians whom USA intelligence services believe were assassinated in the United Kingdom, according to an investigation by BuzzFeed News.
