Donald Trump fires Secretary of State hours after backing UK's Russian Federation claim

President Trump fires Secretary of State Rex Tillerson

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was ousted Tuesday after months of strained relations with President Donald Trump, who sometimes used tweets to disparage the former Exxon Mobil CEO's efforts at worldwide diplomacy, Bloomberg reports. "He will do a fantastic job!" he tweeted.

"Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service!" he added.

Pompeo is to be replaced at CIA by Gina Haspel, Pompeo's deputy at CIA, Trump tweeted.

Mr Trump last Friday asked Mr Tillerson to step aside, and the embattled top diplomat cut short his trip to Africa on Monday to return to Washington.

In addition to Mark's Star Wars connection, research into his family history has found that he has a double-link to Ireland. The second wave of Funko Pop! bobbleheads for Star Wars: The Last Jedi are arriving sometime this year.

"I am grateful to President Trump for the opportunity, and humbled by his confidence in me, to be nominated to be the next Director of the Central Intelligence Agency", Haspel said in a statement. The secretary has generally been cut out of the loop on major foreign policy moves, like Trump's impulsive decision to meet with Kim Jong-un. The Secretary of State had previously been forced to deny media reports that he called Mr Trump a "moron".

It was the latest shake up in Trump's administration.

There had been longstanding rumors throughout most of Tillerson's tenure of friction between Trump and his secretary of state, a former Exxon Mobile Corp. CEO.

Trump had not offered an explanation for the change at the time of the announcement. Mike and Gina have worked together for more than a year, and have developed a great mutual respect.
