Dem leads by 6 points in Pa. special election

Sen. Scott Jensen & Sen. Paul Anderson

Rick Saccone, the Republican candidate in the special election for Pennsylvania's 18th Congressional District, railed against liberals during a rally on Monday. By comparison, almost half of the total votes cast in the district in 2016, came from precincts where president Trump won by over 30 percentage points.

Representative Joe Kennedy III, the Democrat from Brookline, also endorsed Lamb and traveled to his field office last month (although local media chided Lamb for keeping the event quiet and telling reporters he had no public events that day, only to discover Lamb had tweeted a photo of them together). "He will be much better for steel and business".

"I think we need to keep the country going in the direction it's going in", said Johnson, a Trump-supporting union member who works in manufacturing.

While Democrats are largely portraying this year's midterm elections as a referendum on President Trump, the most frequently referenced national politician in PA-18 has been Nancy Pelosi - Republicans have relentlessly attempted to tie her to Conor Lamb.

The 60-year-old state lawmaker has struggled with an electorate that favored Trump by 20 percentage points just 16 months ago.

DETROW: And he told the crowd he needs Republicans to do it. Democrat Conor Lamb may be conservative, Trump said.

The outcome Tuesday of 2018's first congressional election is being closely watched as a key test of support for Republicans ahead of November's midterms.

"They are the party of dependence". As Democrats' hopes build, Republicans have been increasingly vocal about their frustrations with Saccone, a deeply flawed candidate who has paled in comparison to Lamb both in retail political skill and fundraising ability.

For his part, Lamb has held the national party at arm's length, opposing sweeping gun restrictions, endorsing Trump's new steel tariffs, avoiding attacking the president and telling voters he wouldn't back Pelosi for speaker if Democrats won a House majority. By contrast, Lamb's opponent, Rick Saccone has raised $917,892 during the same time period.

"He shares my values", DeFelice said Sunday.

Moreover, Djokovic was handed just his fifth defeat to a player outside the Top 100 of the ATP Rankings in the past decade. He and 10th seed Djokovic both came into the tournament seeking to become the first six-time victor of the event.

Trump said that North Korea is hoping to make peace with the USA, and the time for that has come.

"John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Donald Trump all won Pennsylvania's 18th district by at least 15 points, so the fact that this race is neck-and-neck clarifies that this tax scam is a political liability". Trump Jr., who went to high school and college in Pennsylvania, said he wanted to spotlight a business that had grown from 320 to 400 employees following passage of the GOP-authored tax law a year ago.

Such attitudes will be the difference should Saccone emerge victorious.

Lamb has run as an independent-minded figure.

Pennsylvania voter Michelle Grimpe similarly tells CNN that she's backing Saccone - but she says that she doesn't "like necessary how the president presents himself" and she said that Trump's attitude made her feel tempted to back Saccone's rival, Democrat Conor Lamb. "He's good with the Second Amendment".

He blasts the new Republican tax law as a gift to the wealthy and a threat to Social Security and Medicare.

Trump claimed many steel mills are now opening up because of his decision.

Neither Lamb nor Saccone has focused on the special counsel investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Registered Democrats still outnumber Republicans by nearly a four-to-three ratio in a district where gun rights are a high priority, and Democrats still hold some local offices.

The special election contest in southwest Pennsylvania will come to an end on Tuesday night and, though the victor remains in doubt, the post-election spin pretty much writes itself. Murphy resigned in October amid a sex scandal. Lamb also had the benefit of being able to tack to the center, basically running as a moderate Republican ("Republican lite"), because the unique nature of the race cut off any potential challenge from his left. Neither Lamb nor Saccone has made the ongoing Russian Federation investigation bedeviling Trump part of his pitch, but the paper insisted the country must not "dive into so great a distraction".
