New Zealander arrested for 'producing pornography' in Cambodia released on bail

The group of eight men and two women, aged between 19 and 35, were charged with producing pornographic pictures and told they could face up to a year in jail if convicted.

Those released can not leave the country yet as their passports were taken away, a court spokesman said.

Three of the alleged party organisers - from Britain, the Netherlands and Norway, remain in custody.

Yim Srang, a court spokesman in the northwestern province of Siem Reap, said the investigation had been completed and seven of the suspects were released on Wednesday, but no trial date has been set. Investigating judge Chhe Virak declined to comment.

The 10 - from Canada, the U.K., Norway, the Netherlands and New Zealand - were arrested on January 25 when police raided a party at a rented villa in the northwestern town of Siem Reap and found people "dancing pornographically" at an event organizers called a pub crawl.

Sourng Sophea, a lawyer for the ten foreigners, said he did not know seven had been released on bail because his clients did not contact him.

"I was lucky to have Jessica in there with me", Kazoleas said. "I think that the provincial court sped up the case".

White House speechwriter quits as ex-wife alleges abuse

She said she was not aware that attending an "outdoor pool party" would be offensive to Cambodian culture, but she insisted she did not take part in any "pornographic dancing".

A total of 77 tourists were warned and let go after the incident, while the remaining 10 were charged.

Ananth Baliga, a journalist for the Phnom Penh Post, said on Twitter that the three still detained were from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Norway.

Tibollo's father, lawyer Michael Tibollo, said the Canadian women were held in jail for over a week and were confined to a cell with 45 other women.

The remaining three were identified as Job Robertus van der Wel, from the Netherlands, 22, David Nikolaus Aleksandr Ballovarre, 22, of Norway, and Paul Martin Brasch, 32, of New Zealand.
